Effective 12 October 2026. This policy explains what Cocktail Directory collects, why, and what you can do about it. We have tried to write it in plain language rather than in the usual fog.
Information you give us. An email address if you subscribe to the newsletter. Whatever you include if you contact us about a correction. Nothing else is requested.
Information collected automatically. Like most websites, our host records standard server logs — IP address, browser type, pages requested, timestamps — for security and troubleshooting. We use analytics software to count page views and understand which content people find useful.
Information stored on your device. Saved recipes, your preferred measurement units, and similar conveniences are kept in your browser’s local storage. This never reaches us, does not follow you to another device, and is removed if you clear site data.
We use cookies and local storage for: keeping the site working, remembering your display preferences, and analytics. Where required by law, we ask for consent before setting non-essential cookies, and we honour the Global Privacy Control signal.
If we introduce advertising, this policy will be updated before any advertising cookies are set, and the categories of recipient will be named here.
We do not sell personal information. We share only with service providers who process data on our behalf — our web host, our email delivery provider, and our analytics provider — and only as needed to run the site. We may disclose information if legally required to.
Everyone: you can unsubscribe from any email using the link in it, and you can ask us what we hold about you.
If you are in the EU or UK (GDPR): you have rights of access, correction, erasure, restriction, portability and objection. Our lawful bases are consent (newsletter), and legitimate interests (security, analytics, running the site).
If you are in California (CCPA/CPRA): you have the right to know, delete, correct, and to opt out of sale or sharing. We do not sell or share personal information as those terms are defined. We will not discriminate against you for exercising any right.
To exercise any of these, use the contact page. We will respond within the time the applicable law requires.
This site publishes content about alcoholic drinks and is intended for adults of legal drinking age. It is not directed at children, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 16. If you believe a child has given us information, contact us and we will delete it.
Newsletter addresses are kept until you unsubscribe. Server logs are kept for a limited period for security purposes. We use HTTPS across the site and take reasonable measures to protect information, though no method of transmission over the internet is completely secure.
If we change this policy materially we will update the effective date above and say what changed. Continued use after a change means you accept the updated policy.
This policy describes our actual practices in good faith. It is not legal advice and has not yet been reviewed by a lawyer.
