The recipe.
Scaling adjusts quantities only. Prepare shaken drinks in individual portions.
Let’s make a good drink.
Fill a rocks glass with fresh ice and keep the milk refrigerated until mixing.
Measure the bourbon, whole milk and simple syrup into a shaker.
Add ice and shake until the tin is cold and the mixture is lightly aerated.
Strain over the fresh ice and grate nutmeg over the surface.
A thoughtful finish
- Use whole milk for the body of the cited recipe.
- Freshly grated nutmeg gives aroma without needing a large amount.
- Make the drink close to serving time so its shaken texture remains lively.
Common mistakes
- Adding lemon juice changes the dairy mixture and is not part of this formula.
- Confusing this creamy drink with clarified milk punch leads to the wrong preparation.
- Leaving milk at room temperature while preparing other drinks compromises freshness.
A few good questions.
Is Bourbon Milk Punch clarified?
No. This version stays opaque and creamy; clarified milk punch is a different preparation.
Does this version need vanilla?
No. The Buffalo Trace / Sazerac House recipe card does not list vanilla.
Can I use another bourbon?
Yes, as a bottle substitution, while keeping the measured formula intact.
Can I make it with plant milk?
That is a dairy-free adaptation with a different texture; it is not the exact whole-milk version.
Variations
- Different bourbon — ingredient adaptation — Use another bourbon at the same measure and note which bottle was used.
- Plant milk — ingredient adaptation — Replace whole milk with an unsweetened plant milk if needed; label the texture and ingredient change.
