Origins are genuinely obscure. The drink is strongly associated with Jalisco and with the widespread availability of Squirt grapefruit soda in Mexico from the 1950s onward. Don Javier Delgado Corona of La Capilla in Tequila has sometimes been credited, though he did not claim it. No documented first appearance exists.
