Built to the standard modern spec; not yet tested in our kitchen. How we test.
The recipe.
Scaling adjusts quantities only. Prepare shaken drinks in individual portions.
Let’s make a good drink.
Fill a highball glass with fresh ice.
Measure in the blanco tequila and chilled soda water.
Mix with a gentle lift of the spoon, add the lime wedge and serve immediately.
A thoughtful finish
- Use soda water rather than tonic to keep the published drink unsweetened.
- Chill the soda and open it just before serving.
- Leave lime squeezing to the drinker unless measured juice is part of a separate version.
Common mistakes
- Shaking the soda removes carbonation and can force a shaker open.
- Adding agave syrup creates a sweeter drink outside the formula.
- Using a flat, long-opened bottle of soda leaves the drink dull.
A few good questions.
Does Tequila Soda contain lime juice?
The cited build has a lime wedge garnish, with no measured juice component.
Can I use reposado?
Yes, as an ingredient adaptation; Patrón also publishes a reposado-and-soda version.
Is club soda suitable?
Yes. Use plain unsweetened carbonated water, rather than tonic or flavored sweet soda.
Is Tequila Soda alcohol-free?
No. The tequila remains alcoholic even though the mixer contains no alcohol.
Variations
- Reposado option — Use reposado tequila in place of blanco, a company-published tequila-and-soda option.
- Without lime wedge — garnish adaptation — Omit the garnish while retaining the two-liquid formula.
